My case(s) are fuctional, ie; serve a specific purpose, [good, filtered
air flow].

LOL ::high five!:: I'm with you!

Except that it's my *birthday!* ;)

I purchase cases based on 4 (or more) things:

1. Cooling. Available (built-in) areas for case fans.
2. Cooling. Available (built-in) areas for case fans. (repeat this,
zillion times)
3. Size of interior and ease of drive removal.
4. Proximity of ATX screwholes, with regard to the PSU.

Looks: I like plain-jane looking cases. However, I recently bought a
server tower that is a cool midnight blue :) Same body as the Thermaltakes,
with 2 mounting brackets for 100mm fans in front, two in back (came with the
rear exhaust fans), one on the side blowing right on my overclocked video
card (came with that fan, also). Also, has plenty of grill-space in the
front to allow airflow from the front into the case. Dropped my temps by
about 10degC. And, has a clear side. Kinda nice to be able to goggle at my
parts without removing the side.

Cost: $120 USD. Could have gotten same case for $90 USD. But, it was a
Sunday. And, the place with the $90 version is not open on Sundays. I
could't wait, didn't have time, etc...

Absolutely nothing. I want a case that holds all the parts, has
plenty of expansion capabilities and rather obsolete looking so nobody
will steal it.

i spent $150 on a black aluminum lian li pc-61 but not just for the looks. i
like the fan arrangement, 2 front filtered 1 rear exhaust (unfortunately
they changed that since), plenty of room, well built and the removable
motherboard tray is a nice bonus.

OK, thanks for speaking up.

Just spent £110 on a Thermaltake XaserIII. Partly because I have
cooling issues but partly because it looks so damned good.

I sat down next to my son in front of my 'puter, and he and I looked at
all the cases that New Egg sells. They have a really nice assortment
available.

He talked me into getting a case that has a floral shaped window on the
side and lights in the front! LOL! No fair! I'd been drinking! LOL!

My computer is going to be as flashy as DOLLY PARTON!

Now I have to get the lights for the inside too. What have I gotton
myself into!? I never had to worry about how the inside looked before.

Happy B-Day, btw.

I find it all a waste of money. I would rather put it into a faster CPU,
hard drive etc. To spend $100+ or $200+ on a "pretty" case with "pretty"
lights and "pretty" fans is absurd. When I go into shops and see even the
stupid ergo-shaped cases on HPs, Compaq's and IBM's, etc., I think that is
all a waste. I just want the PC to boot day in and day out. Geez, a
service call because the lights don't work. What a pathetic waste of time
and money.

Good for you! There's nothing wrong with doing something just for the hell of
it sometimes. It helps make life special! :-)

I'm going to get a kick out of it. :)

I wish all of you well with your "pretty" cases. Seriously! But I can't
see why spend the money on something that is hidden under the desk.

I don't hide mine, FWIW.

Happy B-Day TPM 80) A Lian Li might be worth looking at. Attractive
cases, to be sure. The best features are on the inside. Well designed and
engineered.

it won't be, you will have to show it off and put it in the open.

All I want is a stable system, it can be in a garbage can as long as it
works 24/7!

To each their own.
Good luck with your cases.
