Hi,

I just joined my WIn XP desktop to a domain served by a
computer running Windows 2000 and logged in using a new
user account I created in Active Directory.

Unfortunately, in doing so, I've lost all access to all
the files in the My Documents folder, all bookmarks in
IE, my Outlook email account, etc.

Is there any thing I can do to "migrate" all that stuff
over to my new user account?

Yes, right click My Computer and select Properties. Click the Advanced tab
and under User Profiles click the Settings button. Highlight your old
profile and click the Copy to button. Navigate to the new profile. Be sure
to click the Change button under Permitted to use.

Note, if your old user account was a member of the local Administrators
group, that does not mean that your new domain account will also be a
member. Only domain administrators group members are automatically added to
the local Administrators group. You can add your domain user account to the
local Administrators group by logging on as a domain administrator and using
the Computer Management console.

If Doug's advice doesn't capture everything, use the Files and Settings
Transfer Wizard in Windows XP to move your files and settings. Log in with
your old non-domain login, run the F&STW to save everything (I suggest a
network drive or another partition on your PC if you have one), then log on
as the domain user and run F&STW again to re-import everything.

Where's this at?

Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools. Great little toy. With
imagination you can use it for all sorts of interesting things - for
example, run it once or twice a week set up to back up only Outlook/Outlook
Express files and voila! instant Email backup.
