I want to add a presentation into a Worddocument. Only the icon is to be
seen in Word and when doubleclicking the presentation it has to open. I have
tried several way to insert the file and works perfectly with the icon
shown.
The problem is that the ppt-file opens as a show as if it were a pps-file.

Is there a way to do this which I have not yet found?

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

When you double-click on an OLE object (which is what you are doing) the
default "OLE verb" for that particular TYPE of object is executied. There
are two different types of OLE objects that PowerPoint can create:

1) Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation
Verbs: Show (Default), Edit, Open

2) Microsoft PowerPoint Slide
Verbs: Edit (Default), Open

Unfortunately, unlike PowerPoint, Word does not have (to the best of my
knowledge) something like "Action Settings" which would allow you, on a
per-object basis, to specify which OLE verb should be executed for a given
object when it is double-clicked. But, you might want to check in the Word
newsgroups to be sure.

It's not advised to change the default verbs for OLE objects (through the
registry), so, if you want to Edit the objects you will have to NOT
double-click on them but, instead:

1) Right-Click on the Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation object
2) Select "Presenation Object -> Edit" from the context menu

Another alternative is to, instead of inserting PowerPoint objects, to
insert a "Package" object which contains a PowerPoint presentation and then
specifying, within the package a command line which opens the file for
editing instead of as a slide show. I don't use Package objects very much
so I'll leave it to others to provide the details of how it might be used
as an alternative.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions for how
PowerPoint / Word / Excel might work better/differently together, don't
forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
