I am working on an internal web where we are posting
some ppt files

Enviroment:
OS - Windows 2000 Server
Web - IIS 5.0
Brower - IE 6.*

When I click on the link for the ppt file I recieve
options to Open, Save, Cancel, More Options.

I can save the file to my computer and open without any
problem.

When I try to open the file - "The page cannot be
displayed" message pops up -

When I switch to Apache as the web server the ppt file
works fine.

I have played with the option "Browse in same window"
under file types - plus these two articles -

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;148897
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;193823

It seems to be a differece between IIS and Apache - I am
using NTFS permissions on the home directory yet I am an
administrator to the directory...

thanks...

Hi,

Have you checked the IIS settings? If you put other types
of files in the same directory, do you get prompted for
download as well or is it only PowerPoint? I suspect this
is a setting in IIS, but I've been away from IIS Admin for
a while so I can't tell you exactly what to check.

Thank you for replying -

I have tested txt doc and pdf files in and they come up
fine within the browser window.

IIS server as the culprit is possible since Apache works
just fine -

I think IIS allows you specific controls over MS Office
files (part of that Web Collaboration thing) beginning
with Office 2000. We had several problems with Word docs
on our intranet at first because they all opened in edit
mode. I bet it's got something to do with that.

Are you the IIS administrator?

Thanks,
Glenna
