Nearly every time I wake up my Compaq Presario 2700 from
its standby mode, it first cycles back through another
standby. If anybody has any ideas on what might be going
on, I'd love to hear it. Haven't seen anything on this
topic, although I may have missed some posts.

Hey Kevin,

What sort of standby S1 or S3, S1 is sleep mode, S3 is suspend to RAM with
fans stopped.

How do you resume, move the mouse, hit any key, hit a specific key, or press
the power button.

If its via mouse or keyboard, are the ps/2 or usb devices.

Have you applied sp1 and the latest fixes.

Paul,

It's not the hibernate mode, just standby (that's what it
says when I do a properties check on the desktop).

When I resume, I've been clicking a mouse button or
touching the touchpad (laptop computer).

All the latest fixes and drivers are applied. It's been
doing this for months, and through various updated to
either drivers or the operating system (Win XP pro).

This is a laptop, so

Hibernate is different again, its S4, which is suspend to disk.

When you select standby in xp, it goes into either s1 or s3 standby,
depending on what standby mode you have set in the bios. S3 standby and
hibernate can appear similar, in that the fans are off in both cases, but if
you lose power in S3 standby, you lose the contents of RAM.

S1/S3 setting is normally on the powermanagement bios screen. You can also
define in this bios screen what devices to monitor for wakeup.

Is it a ps2 or usb mouse? This is important.

Does this device have have a powermanagement tab in device manager and/or an
allow this device to wake the system from standby option?

Paul
