I've been through the process of adding the user to the local admin group,
launching the applications and then removing them from the local admin group
and unfortunately it didn't eliminate the message. I agree that it sounds
like a permission issue; I just don't know how to fix it.
Deleting/recreating the profile for this user is difficult because of the
profile specific applications they use so the only real option would be to
do a PC re-image or let the user live with the message since the message
appears to have no consequence other than the annoyance and delay of seeing
it when the applications are opened. Does anyone have any other ideas?
message Sounds like a permissions issue or a windows profile corruption to me then.
You might want to try to give him/her admin rights to the machine once.
Login and start the Office applications. Log off and remove the admin
rights. Does it still happens when he/she logs on now?

I deleted and recreated the Outlook profile and still the preparing to
install window persists. I also noticed that not only does Outlook pop-up
the message when opening, but Word and PowerPoint do it as well. Excel and
Access do not do it. Does anyone have any more ideas?
I did a full uninstall/reinstall of the entire Office suite and the message
persists. Does anyone have any more ideas?
Unfortunately I already tried running a repair and that didn't resolve the
problem. I also tried reapplying SP3 after running the repair, but it
reported that SP3 was already installed and then didn't reapply itself.
message Insert the CD and do a repair on Office. You might need to reapply SP3
again.

We're running Office XP and recently started installing SP3. On one PC
since installing SP3 every time the user opens Outlook they receive a
preparing to install window on the screen. The window goes away after a few
seconds and all appears to be well, but it happens every time they open
Outlook. How do we make this stop?
