Premature Closing

This is a new problem. Whenever I browse to a site opening in a new window,
the Back button, of course, greys out and becomes inoperative which is to be
expected, but when I click on the X to close the new webpage, IE closes
completely. It gives me no options. I can't go Back because the Back button
doesn't work, so I have to click on the X, and that closes everything and I
have to start all over. Help.
I am using Windows XP Home Edition and IE 6.0 sp2

I'm replying to myself to let you know that I have since discovered that IE
won't let me open more than one window (webpage) at a time. I opened IE to
my.yahoo.com then I left that one up and opened another instance of IE to a
different website. my.yahoo.com disappeared (closed). What's going on?
Anybody???

I'm not sure that I follow your problem. Can't you just enter the URL you
want to go to in the address window? Or if you want to go back to a previous
website, can't you open the drop down menu in the address window and select
the website? Have you tried clicking File + New + Window to get another IE
page? Sorry if I'm missing something.

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".

Also, if you have Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
Earthlink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program (especially uninstall Yahoo Companion).

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

If you're *sure* that another program isn't causing this, these links may
help.
