I recently read that one can delete all entries in the Prefetch folder to
improve general performance. Is this correct? Other than app launch
delays, is there a downside of deleting all entries.

No. It's not true. Application launching is faster with the prefetch though
I do delete mine every few months or so to kill items that aren't in use any
longer. It will save you some space I suppose. I can't see there being a
reason to delete it often nor to disable it. I put it on a different disk (a
whole separate HDD) and let Windows manage it. By the way, what has this got
to do with Windows Messenger? Anyhow, no, I'd not delete it.

"... Windows Messenger?" Oops, sorry. I stopped reading at "windowsxp".

Thanks for the detail anyway.

No worries, I'm not too topic-specific anyhow but other people complain so I
tend to remind people nicely before the mean people come and rant about it.
