I need to set my drawing preference such that I could keep using the say,
line drawing tool until I chose something else. Is there a way that it could
be set. Please, any suggestion???

Double-click the tool. Click it again or hit Esc to turn it off.
 
Open the small window where you can choose the drawing lines. On the upper
border of the window, maintain a click and move the window where you want.
