Hi
Wow - nearly all of the problems posted in this section seem to come back to that pesky 'Generate Thumbnails' option when installing PS
I came to this newsgroup seeking answers to a problem that started when I reinstalled my whole machine including PS Elements, and John Inzers Magic Uncheck solution (JIMU) worked for me too. However I now have a further query - before I reinstalled everything the default viewing mode for image folders seemed to be thumbnails (not tiles or icons) - which was nice, as you could see at a glance what the directory contained. Now though, every new image directory I open defaults to tiles and I have to go into the views tab to manually change it to thumbnails. My question is this - Is there a way to set up Windows XP so that all image folders default to thumbnails? Please don't tell me that's what I unchecked when I used JIMU.... I'm sure it used to work fine before the reinstall....

Click on any folder to highlight it.
Click on Tools on your top bar and on Folder options on the opening menu.
Click on the View tab.
Scroll down and check the box "Remember each folder view setting".
When you open a folder and set the view to thumbnails it should return to
thumbnails when you open it again.

You can also right click on a photo folder and click on Properties. In the
opening window click on the Customize tab and then set this folder as a
Picture folder. The default is thumbnails for opening a picture folder and
this will also add the Filmstrip view.
