Jess

I have recently created a new 2000 advanced server domain.
When I try to connect to the Domain network with my 98
and 95 windows computers I get the message. "No domain
server was available to validate your password. You may
not be able to gain access to some network resources."
I have added the users and computers to active
directory. In the pre-windows 2000 computers I added the
proper information in Client for Microsoft Networks--
Properties section. In Access Control I have selected
User-level. In the box. "Obtain list of users and groups
from." I put the domain controllers computer name. I get
the message back. "Windows could not find the specified
security provider..." Tracert and ping works will to all
computers.
My 2000 and XP computers work good on the network.
These same 95 and 98 computers are getting proper DHCP ip
addresses. My Active Directory and DHCP server are on the
same computer. Can anyone help me, JESS

Down-level clients don't use Kerberos try adding NTLM to
you DC.

Windows 2000 domains do not use netbios to find a domain controller like an
NT domain. You have to enable WINS on a 2000 server, and prefered a Domain
Controller, and configure DHCP to configure your NT, win9x clients. Also you
have to monitor the WINS database to make sure that it contains the 1CH
record that lists the group of Domain Controllers and the 1B record that
lists the PDC Emulator. Check Microsoft KnowledgeBase
