Hallo,

i'm new to this group, i made my searches but no results come.

Is it possible to create a "general purpose" windows xp installation,
with no cd key, no specialized driver and some general use software
pre installed, so that i can create an image with partimage or similar
tools and stream it each time a different computer needs
reinstallation?

I need to speedup the installation process a bit.

Actually i use a winxp slipstreamed with sp3 and some fixes and
tools... but i want something faster.

Thanks in advance

Sysprepped image using whatever imaging tool you want.
Or maybe MDT...

Before everything else, please allow me to thank you for your answer.

Btw, i'm a newbie and your acrhonims are nothing more than some glyphs
to me... could you please point me somewhere?

thanks again!

Now is a great time to point you to one of the easiest ways to find
information on problems you may be having and solutions others have found:

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Along that line - I am not going to just give you the answer - but how you
could have come upon the answers based off this conversation...

From "what is sysprep":
http://www.google.com/search?q=what+is+sysprep

You might visit this site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc783215.aspx

And read up on SysPrep and what it does, can do, etc...

From "what is imaging tools"
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=what+is+imaging+tools

You might have deduced that some of the more commonly used imaging tools out
there are:

Symantec/Norton Ghost
http://snipurl.com/13e00

Acronis True Image
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

BootIt NG
http://terabyteunlimited.com/bootitng.html

Casper Suite
http://www.jamfsoftware.com/products/casper_suite.php

I can see where MDT could confuse someone - sorry about that...

From "What is MDT":
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=What+is+MDT

You would likely eventually get to:
http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/MDT

And deduced that - in this particular conversation - one would likely use
the following:

MDT- Microsoft Deployment Toolkit

So then...

What is Microsoft Deployment Toolkit
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=what+is+Microsoft+Deployment+Toolkit

Might have lead you to these two pages eventually:
-
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1f-77ac-4400-a0c1-fe871c461a89&displaylang=en

Some things you *might* have come across - but might not have - just from
the conversation and resulting search words so far (although as you read up
more and more - your search vocabulary would naturally grow):

http://unattended.sourceforge.net/
http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/
http://www.appdeploy.com/packages/

As I said - *might have* come across these. The reason I am including them
is that even the best imaging solution can also benefit fromsome standard
method of initially installing and/or some of the
tools/methods/scripts/command line switches you can find using the web pages
that dedicate themselves to easy distribution and management of
software/operating systems.

Some of that you might have already known.

Hope that helps!
