Can someone send me to a link on how to keep XPe updated? If it requires
target designer, please let me know where I can find that.

Thank you,
William

Hi William,

there are several scenarios in which you can upadte an XPE image... here's a
link to the servicing devices section in the XPE documentation.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/usewinemb/xp/servicing/default.aspx

depending on how the initial image was created there are ways to update
without Target designer, but if you are the creator of the initial image,
you would have to have TD. if you bought a device based on XPE, your OEM for
that device should provide an update schema for you.

Target Designer can be purchased from any of the 4 embedded distributors (I
happen to be one of them) so you can contact me OL for how to purchase.

here's a link to evaluate the product:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/getstart/evaluate/default.aspx

Hi,

I am also looking for a good way to keep the system up to date.

A couple of maintenance frameworks:

* A home-brewn update client/utility that is EWF-aware
* DUA: Device Update Agent (create update scripts):
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...n-us/xpehelp/html/xecondeviceupdateagent3.asp
* Remote Management (eg. Terminal Services):
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d.../en-us/xpehelp/html/xeconremotemanagement.asp
* SUS: Software Update Services: SUS enables automatic scanning
and deployment of Microsoft-issued security updates on XPe-based
devices, and increases the ability to integrate devices across
networks.
* SMS: Systems Management Server: SP2 adds a client for SMS, which
enables remotely updating applications on XPe-based devices from a
centralized location.

I have only tried the DUA, but you have to make updates yourself,
using the scripting language I think.
