PPTX 2007 Graphs Crashing PowerPoint

Tried to search for identical problem in this group before posting....

Running Windows XP and Office 2007 (all updates current for both).
Last month started having problems when creating or editing charts.
Not long after I start editing attributes to columns, lines, pie
charts, the graph freezes and PPTX stops responding. My IT group
suggested I reinstall Office, but had same results. Next step was to
reimage my drive and install clean copy of Office. Still having the
problem. Note that I do not have this problem when in Excel when
creating and modifying charts.

Any idea as to what the problem might be? I'm thinking my Pentium M (2
gig RAM) Dell laptop might be ready for the grave, but I'm sure IT
would disagree.

Any suggestions as to why this is cropping up?

I'm clicking using my mouse. Never had the problem before with this
method. Noticed that if I take my time in clicking from one object to
another (allowing a good 3 to 5 seconds), the problem happens less
often.
Also forgot to mention that I also ran "Microsoft Diagnostics" within
PowerPoint.

Yeah.

There's a bug in PPT where, if you hit your arrows a bunch of times to move
around the different chart objects, PPT will crash. Happened to me just
yesterday, as a matter of fact! Luckily, Steve Rindsberg had mentioned it to
me, so I at least knew what caused it.

I believe it happens with the Tab key as well, but I didn't realize it would
happen by quickly mouse-clicking objects in the chart. I also don't know if
there's a fix or not -- Steve will. Hopefully he'll pop in soon.

Thanks so much. Don't think reverting to SP2 is an option with my IT
department. Going to push for a newer laptop. MOST of the time when I
move from one series to another VERY slowly and deliberately, the
beast shows it's ugly head less often. This is very frustrating,
particularly when I have to turn around charts quickly for my CFO and
others. If anyone knows of any tricks or if Microsoft has addressed
this issue, please let me know. Am at my wit's end! :-(

IT solution was to uninstall Office, run through the registry & pull
out all references to Office, then re-install. So far, so good. Will
keep my eye on it.

IT solution was to uninstall Office, run through the registry & pull
out all references to Office, then re-install. So far, so good. Will
keep my eye on it.
