pptviewer trying to make TCP connection!?

Hello,

I have a few ppt files which when Packaged for CD onto my hard disk
cause my firewall software to ask permission for pptview.exe to make a
TCP connection to 80.71.25.4 - a reverse lookup produces no info on
this IP.

Any idea what is happening?

Hi

I would try cutting the pictures then using edit->paste special. What you
can paste as depends, but select jpg or png if available - if not choose
device independent bitmap then cut & paste special again to jpg or png.
Normally resolves any issues with pictures copied from the web.

Thanks Lucy - I did try cut and paste but not paste special - will try
that.

Lucy,

I have now tried cut/paste special and then selected gif - this does
not work I'm afraid! Still get the attempt to make a TCP connection
when using the Viewer.

So back to the hard way - I copy images to a new slides and then
delete the originals. This does work but is a more time consuming.

Anything else I could try?

When I copy/paste this kind of image, I get the same thing as I started with.
Another copy of an image that links to the web. No help there.

If I copy/paste special as some other format, I get a shabby looking image.

But ... save the PPT as a web page, normal HTML rather than MHT and look in the
folder of supporting files that that creates and voila, normal images in all
their glory. Insert those, delete the old, and no more links, it seems.

Sweet. I thought round-tripping through HTML would keep the odd tags (or
whatever it is). I should have actually *tried* it before ruling it out!

Round tripping probably would. But one-way tripping leaves the original image
for you to have your way with.

Steve,

With several images on several pages I think copying and pasting into
new slides seems to be the quicker way for me. At least I can select
all images and any text and action buttons and copy in one go.

Oddly I could not get right mouse click / copy to work. I had to
select all images etc and then use CTRL/C to do this.

If it works, yes, certainly. In the example I was working with, it didn't ...
copy/paste left me with exactly the same thing as I'd started with: an image that
wanted to visit home, home on the web.

Perhaps that indicates that my problem was different?! Is it possible
to check the hyperlink for an image?

In this case, not that I know of, though there might be some way of doing it by either
saving as HTML and examining the result or using the Script editor.
