PPTP XP 2 minute disconnect

I am running Windows XP SP2 to connect onto a Windows
2003 server through a PPTP VPN. I have been successful
in connecting using this XP machine for many months;
however I added a Linksys Router and set the DMZ to that
of the server and now every 2 minutes 8 seconds the XP
machine diconnects. I upgraded the XP machine to SP2 in
hopes this would resolve the issue; however it has not.

Connection was successful until the addition of the
Linksys router - the router was added to bounce
192.168.x.x/10.10.x.x traffic back to the server for the
VPN connections in hopes this would help NetBIOs traffic
which would not allow me to browse the computers via the
VPN properly. I have two Windows 2000 servers setup and
working with this new router properly which tie two
offices to the central Windows 2003 server - these two
machines have no problems connecting and remaining
connected. The current config is as follows:

DLink DI-604 used as a firewall 172.168.0.1 into a
Linksys Router 172.168.0.2/192.168.0.1 DMZ to Windows
2003 server 192.168.0.10 setup as VPN router 10.10.0.1
with remote offices connecting in as 10.10.1.1/10.10.2.1
translated networks as 192.168.1.x/192.168.2.x.

All the above has worked beautifully until the addition
of the Linksys router - the router has PPTP pass through
enabled and DMZ of the server. The Windows 2000 machines
connect with no problems and has since solved the issue
of NetBIOS traffic, workstation connections (Windows XP
Media Center PC/Windows XP machine) work properly as
well; however two particular machine on two different
networks - which connected with no problems before the
Linksys - is now disconnected each time at 2 minutes 8
seconds where other machines have no problems... any
suggestions? (SP2 already applied)

I had this problem in the past, 2 minutes sharp ...

It was due to the firmware of my router. I do not use the same as yours, ...
but souhd check this because the symptoms are very similar.

I was not using SP2 .. so maybe it is linked to the SP itself.

Regards

Acctually, this has occured under SP1 and continues to
occur under SP2. The router (prior to being put into
place) was upgraded to the latest firmware - both routers
were. The current router is a DLink DI-604 (which is
worked prior under) and an added Linksys WRT54G acting
simply as a router - DMZ enabled to the server everything
else off (except VPN/IPSec/L2TP pass through).

VPN XP Client Disconnects After One Minute
SYMPTOMS: After you install SP1 for XP, your computer may drop VPN
connections after about 55 seconds. This behavior may occur if ICS/ICF is
enabled.
RESOLUTION: 1) disable ICS. 2) disable ICF. 3) contact Microsoft Product
Support Services to obtain the fix.

Thank you for your efforts, however I have already
researched what MS KB and search queries online have to
offer - the it is suggested that XP SP1 is deficient with
a connect to a VPN server and a disconnect via PPTP on
some routes - however in the list of fixed in SP2 for XP
this it have been resolved - I have tested on two other
XP machines with SP1 & SP2 - those machine have no
issues - I have also tested on another network with the
same Linksys WRT54G router and the same issue occurs on
these two machines - disconnect after 2 minutes; however,
no problems on other machines - therefore, based on these
tests it must be the Linksys causing these issues and
some sort of issue with XP... My work around for now is
to simply allow all network traffic to go through the D-
Link and pass into the server directly with the Linksys
used simply to route traffic; however this causes a lot
of redundent traffic as for this to work I have to assign
the WAN port from the Linksys into a port on the D-Link
AND a port on the linksys into another port on the D-Link
causeing a circular appearance and a lot of extra traffic.
