Over a pptp vpn to a Windows 2000 server we can access shares that are
assigned to everyone but not shares that are locked down to individual users,
even though you are logging onto the vpn with a valid user name which would

Many thanks

Are you in fact "logging on" with a VPN connection, or simply making a
VPN connection? A VPN connection is not normally a logon operation.

To actually logon, you need to use the "logon using a dialup connection"

client machine will use the credentials of its original local login, not the
ones used to make the VPN connection.
