pptp connection from Vista to company fails

Hi everyone!

I just configured a new notebook for connecting to our company by pptp, due
to Vista's lack of supporting our normal VPN client (which uses IPSec). I
tested the onnection with my own PC (which runs XP SP2) and could work with
that quite well. Problem now is this: the Vista machine can connect in 1 of 5
tries, but then it the connection lasts for only seconds or maybe 3 min.
Sometimes I even cannot connect at all. Even a complete reboot of the
notebook helps. On the other hand I don't have any problems, when using a XP
client.
I don't know what to check or do on that incident. Any ideas?

Best regards from Germany,

What's the error code if it doesn't work? And any errors in the VPN host?

Hi Robert!

There is no error code. I start the connection and when "verifying user and
password" appears, it takes up to 4 min. and then simply disappear. No
connection established, no problem reported. On the other side is a firewall
(Watchguard X700). I just installed the syslog daemon for the firewall to log
a whole login procedure.

Thanks for answering!

I suspect that the pptp session is not closed correctly. In that case the
vpn profile would be "still in use" when connecting after a successful
connection...

Could be. To test it, re-set the router. Does that fix the problem? please post back with the result.
