PPT2007 slide numbers editable in normal view

I've applied slide numbers to the slide master, but when I switch back to
normal view they are not flat on the slide, but able to edit/move. Is there
a way to make them flat (like they were in PPT2003)?

I don't think so. you can set the color of number on the masters to
background and give it a very fast with previous colour change. At least its
not obvious in edit view and folk won't be tempted to mess! I suppose you
could even move it off slide and give it a super fast motion path. I must say
I liked it better in 2003
