I installed Office 2003 on a new Gateway and have been
trying to do a powerpoint presentation for three days. I
also can't open .ppt created on other computers.

I initially got an error that said "kernel file system
error bug code: 0x22. Parameters 0x1C0083; 0xEIFCF654;
0xE113D420; 0E2DIF800." When I clicked that off, I
got "The volume for a file has been externally altered so
that the opened file is no longer valid." When I tried
to eject the CD-RW, I got "Do not have access to the
folder 'D:\.' See your administrator for access to this
folder." When I clicked that off, I got a message that
said "The disk is currently be written to. It will eject
soon, when the writing is complete."

I had to restart the computer to eject the disk. Right
clicking on D and selecting "eject" did not work.

After reading some of the earlier postings, I uploaded
Office and Windows 2003 updates.

I still cannot open .ppt files which were created on
another computer using PowerPoint 2003. When I tried to
save a .ppt, I got a message saying "The
folder 'D:\(filename)' isn't accessible. The folder may
be located in an unavailable location, protected by a
pasword, or the file name contains a / or \."

Any ideas?

If you go to Help/About in PPT 2003, does it say MS PPT 2003 SP1 on the
first line? Just want to make sure that the Office 2003 SP1 installed
correctly.

Stop saving directly to (and trying to work from) the CD drive (the D
drive). This is just asking for trouble, as you're seeing. See the section
on CDs at http://tinyurl.com/6v4eh for an explanation as to why.
