hello, i am having trouble getting my slides to print in
the center of the page. i followed the 'help' guide and
tried various 'page set up' settings to no avail. i have
also selected the 'center' alignment option, which has no
effect whatsoever. any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks in advance.

sonia, thanks for the reply. unfortunately the rdpslides
faq didn't help. i created this doc in office pro 2000 on
a win 98 machine and had it printing fine. i lost my bios
chip, got a new machine with an xp os, which has different
print options. i cannot adjust margins, for one. would
upgrading to office 2003 make a difference? thanks.

New machine?

Have you installed updates for?

Windows
Office
DirectX (Important)
Video Drivers
Printer Drivers

If not that would be where I would start.

yes sonia, i did. i got a dell a920. but before that i
had to replace my toshiba tecra 8000 laptop running win 98
because my bios died... so i bought a dell running xp. hp
doesn't make an xp updated driver for my hp895cse so i
bought the dell a920. and it is an inkjet. i read the
article you previously suggested but i don't understand
because i was able to print this .ppt doc properly before
when i was using the toshiba/hp gear. thanks for your
help. blair

All printers are different. You've changed hardware, so you'll need to get
to know how it works and what its limitations are.

Windows XP should include the driver for the hp895cse, according to the HP
website. See http://tinyurl.com/uj8l Have you tried using it with your
new laptop?

Hello Blair,

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for.
Instead, PowerPoint always prints the slide area centered in the printable
area for the printer (defined by the print driver, not by PowerPoint). If
that print area is not centered on the page (uneven margins) then the slide
area will also print not centered.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide some kind of margin control (within contstraints of printer, or
course) and/or an option to print the slide centered on the page instead of
centered in the printable area, don't forget to send your feedback to

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
