PPt 2007: Front/back order editing problem

When I have a number of elements selected--let's say 50 elements--and I then
click "Bring to top", only one element at a time a time pops to the top. In
this case I would have to click 50 times to get all 50 items to be on top of
all other elements on the slide. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

They all come to the front here. They're not all going to be on the same
"layer," though -- some things will still be behind others. If you've
selected everything on your slide, for example, probably nothing will
change.

I just created a circle on a slide, copied it and Ctrl+V about 20 times. So
I had this diagonal line of circles on my slide. I selected 10 or 15 from
the beginning -- the circles that were behind the other, later circles --
and hit the Bring to Front button on the Home tab, and they all came
forward, on top of the rest of the circles.

You can see this happen if you open the Selection and Visibility pane, a new
feature in PPT 2007. Go to the Home tab on the Ribbon, click the Select
button on the far right, then click Selection Pane.

Thanks, Echo S, for taking the time to test this. I tried the same thing
and, like taking your car to the mechanic, it worked just as you described.
However, I was working on a presentation last night, and on various others,
where this has happened. I keep a log sheet to record all these questions as
they arise, and this one has happened often enough that I didn't flag it for
deletion from the list. But next time it happens, providing I'm not under
deadline and have the time, I will pay very close attention and make sure it
is repeatable. If so, I will save the offending slide for future reference.
Thanks again.

Cool.

Until then, check that selection pane -- it's very helpful in a variety of
ways.

Oh, you know, it may have to do with what you're selecting, too. (Not sure
why that'd be the case, but hey, you never know.) So when you run across it
and look at it more closely, also be sure to look at what *type* of things
you're selecting in the group of objects -- placeholders vs textboxes or
shapes, SWFs, pictures, videos, charts, tables, etc.

Thanks for your suggestions as to what to look for, Echo S. That selection
pane is great! Did PPt 2003 have something like that that I missed all those
years?

Nope, new feature in 2007. It's way cool. :-)
