Steve

I am getting the error- Can't display the template used
in this document. Windows Installer error 1605.

What happens is: when I start PowerPoint and attempt to
open the Designs folder, the error pops up and I have to
click on OK about 50 times until it goes away. The the
design templates come up fine. Microsoft's solution
(Knowledge Base Article 327975) was to basically uninstall
all of the application software on the machine and re-
install it. I either waste 6 hours reinstalling or live
with the inconvenience. What's to prevent this from
reoccurring next week?

What if you apply a different template to the presentation and save it to a new
name? Do you still have the same problem when opening the newly saved
presentation?

Steve, I've got the same problem except it gets more
interesting if you are running Windows 2002. There
doesn't appear to be a "Msicu.exe" file for W 2002. Any
help out there from others who have solved this? Step by
step would be helpful.

No, it doesn't do it with presentations, only when I try
to open desgn templates. Go figure.

I know it's inconvenient, but
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;327975 also has
steps for cleaning up the registry along with that uninstall/reinstall.
Usually it's a mucked up registry key which causes stuff like this, so it
may well be worth the time (although I do understand it's inconvenient).

Can you apply these design templates to existing (or better, new BLANK
presentations?)

If so, try doing that, then do a File, Save As, and save the file as a new
design template (POT) file. Then try opening that.
