PPS on web with sound

I want to make a .pps file linked on my website. The show has a mp3
file that starts on the first slide and runs until the end of the
show. When I post it on the web the sound is not there. I believe
this is because the sound file is linked to the local file on the hard
drive of the computer I created it on. If I use another computer it
won't play. Is there a way to embed the sound file in a PPS show or
link the file to a mp3 file on my server? I don't want to save the
shows as html since I will have mutiple files linked on the same
webpage and it would be a lot harder.

Thanks

Have you tried putting the MP3 file into the same folder as your presentation
before creating the link to it? then copying all files to your web site in the
same folder.

Publishing to an html file might be your best alternative. You might want to
have a look here.

Sounds won't play across multiple slides on the web

Yes and no. It probably is, but if you put the sound file in the same folder
as the PPT and insert it, it will create a relative link to the sound file; as
long as the two are in the same folder, it should work.

But then you run into this problem:

When I click the link to your PPS, the browser downloads the PPS to a temp
folder on my computer and plays it from there, but it doesn't know about the
linked sound file, so that doesn't get downloaded. Result: Sounds of Silence.

You could convert the sound to WAV and set the embed sounds less than setting
in Tools Options to a large value before adding the WAV. That'll embed the
sound.

You could also try save as web archive/single file (MHT).

One problem I see with the first suggestion is that a 3 MB MP3 = a 27-30 MB
WAV. That will make for a very slow download.

What, your T3's down again? Tsk.

Jim, Sonia's right, of course. If you go the embedded WAV route, you'll want
to save the file to a lower quality level (mono vs. stereo, lower sampling
rate) to get the file size down.

Another approach would be to ensure that the links are pathless, then zip the
PPT plus sound files up and let the end user download the zip file and unzip it
locally.

Thanks. It sounds like there isn't a real easy solution. Hopefully
Microsoft can change powerpoint so that an mp3 file can be embeded or
maybe they can even let you link the file to a server location (that
would be the best). Since this is an archieve and I want to make this
as simple as possible I will probably just stick with putting the
powerpoint out there with no sound and just make the sound another
link on the page.

Thanks again,
jim

Steve,
I tried the single file mhtml. I liked the look of the file in IE but
not only did it not play the sound but I couldn't use the arrow
buttons to skip from slide to slide. I had to choose the slide from
the links on the left side. I will try it again and see if there are
any option setting to change it.

thanks

Jim,

This is an interesting problem. I'm thinking about a possible solution to it
... would you email me on steve at-sign steverindsberg dot com about this?

Thanks.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

It sounds that, although there are workarounds, you would like this to be a
lot easier to do in PowerPoint.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions for how to
make this easier to do in PowerPoint, don't forget to send your feedback
(in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
