PPS gets converted to PPT when downloading

Hello
I've created a powerpoint2003 presentation which I saved
as a PPS file, then uploaded it.
I created a link to that file from a web page created in
Publisher2003 with the correct file name and path which
definitely has the PPS extension.
When I actually do a live test from my web page to see if
the link works the dowload box that the browser produces
(the one that says SAVE or OPEN) seems to have changed
the PPS extension to PPT and indeed when i download it,
it opens a powerpoint file, but my intention was to make
it open a self running un-editable presentation. Am I
doing something wrong?

Regardless of the extension .pps, or .ppt. If you have the full version of
PowerPoint the file can be edited unless you password protect it.
