.pps attachements in windows mail

Every time i receive the same email in my hotmail and windows mail which has
a .pps attachement I can open it in hotmail but not in windows were it's
telling me that the file has no program associated with it even though in the
association panel all .pps slide show files are set to be open by ppviewer as
a defaults, why would that happen good with hotmail but not windows
mail????????
