I have just purchased an Aztech DSL305E ADSL ethernet
modem, initially to connect a PC running XP to the
internet with Explorer 5.0.
The system is currently working well using an Alcatel
Speedtouch USB ADSL modem.
When I connect the DSL305E all seems to work up to
obtaining a connection. Even though the DSL LED is
steady, the diagnostic fails on the line connection.
I have tried different microfilters to no avail.
Reverting to the USB modem and re-selecting 'dial when
not connected' allows a connection.
All power and DSL LEDs are on steady on the modem, the
utility indicates everything is OK but I cannot gain a
connection even though I am using exactly the same ID and
password that works on the USB modem.
If it helps narrow down the problem I am getting
identical no connection results when I configure the
modem in pass through mode and try and connect through a
router or when I configure single user mode and connect
direct to a single computer (the one that has been using
the USB ADSL modem under XP and sharing this over the
local network).
I am not too technical but note the USB modem reports a
PPPoA connection and the DSL305E documentation talks
about PPPoE - is this a clue/problem?
