WRT PowerPoint 2007, it appears the only way to enter chart data is thru an
embedded Excel worksheet-- is this true?

Hi,

Yes. To me, that is good. Instead of a dodgy program running behind
PowerPoint, you now have all of the power of Excel, including formulae and
so on!

Please tell us your PowerPoint / Windows version,
whether you are using vba, whether
your cows are in the corn paddock, or
anything else relevant.

Ignore that Aussie. All the blood's gone to his head.

When you install 2007, you can choose a custom install and add MS Graph. Then
you can do Insert, Object and choose MSGraph to get the old MSGraph you're used
to in PPT.

You can also create your data/charts in Excel then paste to embed or link into
PPT.

But with the power of Excel, why would you?

Personally? I probably wouldn't.
Professionally? I'd be quite happy to see MSGraph go away, or will once MS
finishes hooking VBA up in PPT so we can get at the new charts.

But a lot of the clients have major investments in charts done in MSGraph.
They don't want to leave them behind when moving to 2007 or may not trust the
automatic conversion that happens. Or they may not have the resources to
retrain all the users (who're already comfy with MSGraph. Better the warts you
know ... <g>). And they may have add-ins that work with MSGraph. They might
even be willing to pay to have them rewritten to work with Excel, but as yet,
it's not possible. MS still has some work to do in that department.

So that's why.
