I am the sys admin at a school. A teacher had the kids start PowerPoint and
click the family chart template. An error message appears saying...

"Microsoft PowerPoint cannot start the
application required to open this object. An error
occurred and this feature is not longer functioning."

It then asks me if I want to repair it. I click OK and go
through the repair tool, but it still doesn't fix it. this is happening on
all (56) machines...

PowerPoint was installed across the network and PP goes off to repair itself
but locks up. Task manager doesn't show anything excessive happening.

I have just done a clean Win2000 install with all upgrades and patches on a
new machine (256mb)with a new install of Office 2000 also with all the
latest patches and the same thing happens both in user accounts and admin
account. No other software has been installed or run on this machine.

Why can't we run the templates in PowerPoint?
Is this a bug?

Thanks

Edd

Do you mean the chart layout with Organization Chart on it, maybe?

Org Chart can be pretty picky.

Your error message seems a bit different from those listed in the links
above, but it won't hurt to try those various fixes.

I'd also ask that you make sure you have Org Chart installed.

Actually I have been conducting quite a few experiments with this and I can
now get it working in an administrators account but not in a users account.
As I said this is a school and we have to lock the systems right down to
stop kids messing about with settings. I guess this means that there is a
need for adjustments in the permissions on the files required for the Org
Chart program. Does anyone know which these are? what files such as dll's
does Org Chart need to run so I can reset the permissions on them?
Thanks

Thanks again... I was working through the list. Run out of time now will
continue on Monday.

Thanks again

Check the part in the middle about Org Chart and permissions.
