hello
i have purchased camtasia to convert pp to dvd, but it
does not really do a good job. i have recorded pp to vhs
and that does pp well. iam wondering if you are aware of
a program that will let me convert my pp from vhs to dvd,
that appears to be the only good way to get a dvd. also
if it was free or cheap(have already spent to much money)
thanks nola

I agree, Nola. Camtasia is not satisfactory for making DVDs, in my opinion,
neither is Windows Media Encoder (which can also capture the screen to video
and is free). I assume it is the frame rate that disappoints, which causes
jerkiness?

Transferring your VHS copy to DVD is unlikely to be any more satisfactory.
You've lost much quality by recording to VHS - capturing it back into a PC
and encoding to DVD will lose still more.

However if you're happy with the quality of VHS, which is significantly
lower quality than DVD can offer, you could try the following to improve the
frame rate:
Set your screen resolution to 800x600 at 16 bit colour (I'd recommend this
anyway for screen/video capture).
Set Camtasia to capture just the top left quarter of the screen, i.e.
400x300px.
Start your show in quarter screen mode by holding down CTRL when you click
the slideshow button.

In my view by far the best quality, while preserving animations, is to use a
TV output either to a domestic DVD recorder or direct to another computer
with a video capture card (at full DVD resolution).

If you don't have animations or transitions to preserve I'd recommend
exporting as images and using something like Ulead's DVD Pictureshow.

Hello Nola,

PowerPoint does not have the built-in ability to save presentations as
video files or other video formats such as DVD-Video.

Although there have been some requests, made directly to Microsoft, for the
ability to export PowerPoint presentations to DVD, it's not always clear,
from the suggestion submissions, which of the DVD formats are desired; what
"problem" does saving as DVD solve for each customer; and, given the
limitations of DVD-Video (and other movie formats) when compared to the
fidelity of a native PowerPoint slide show, what slide show
capabilities/quality customers are willing to give up in order to get the
perceived benefits of DVD output.

So, if the ability save presentations to DVD-Video, directly from within
PowerPoint, is important to you (or anyone else reading this message), or
if there are specific features of PowerPoint slide show that you would like
to see (which might eliminate the need to save presentations as DVD-Video),
don't forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
