PP can't read file.ppt

Created a new powerpoint file and saved it. When trying
to open it again, get message: powerpoint can't read
file.ppt. Have XP machine with Office 2003. This same
file can be opened on other machines with same O/S and
Office 2003. Suggestions?

yes, I have.
this is a dell machine and Office 2003 did not load
correctly to begin with. I have repaired and reinstalled
and still no difference. Could there be a conflict with
Norton Anti Virus?
