Sorry I've only used PP twice before - can any of you experts help

Q. Ive got a presentation with about 5 min of video clips (11 bits) pp
says it can't pack them - video is mpeg2 I think (from studio 8.10)

Q. Can't seem to get the delay between slides to function, the video
clips are set to allow sshow to proceed so I can insert text at the relevant
bits but I've had to kludge with a hidden callout which I delay the required
amount?

Q. Can I get a flash 5 animation to play inside PP
Q. Do later versions have more control of video clips e.g be able to
start and stop automatically without splitting onto different slides

TIA

Hm. Are the videos in the same folder as your presentation? You might
try deleting them from your presentation, moving the videos to the same
folder where your presentation lives, and then reinserting them into
your presentation. Save the presentation, then try the pack and go
again. I've found that Pack and Go sometimes balks with files spread all
over my system or on a server or something.

Also, try emptying your temporary internet files folder and deleting any
*.TMP files on your harddrive. Pack and Go just might need more room to
maneuver in the various TEMP folders.

Good job figuring that one out on your own! That's a standard trick many
of us use to increase the slide transition timing.

Yes. http://www.flashgeek.com has good instructions on how to do this.
http://www.indezine.com does as well.

Yes, PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP) and 2003 have multimedia controls in the
animation effects that allows you to pause/start/stop your multimedia
automatically. And dangit, I need to work on a tutorial for those soon.

Cheers thanks for your replies, I looked on the faq suggested and worked out
how to get the flash to load and play.
All the video files were in the same directory. I've just fried pack & go
with one slide with one video clip but still won't !! (tried clearing temp
folders first) - any other ideas.?

TIA

Cool, glad we got some things working, anyway!

Nuts. Not a clue. I swear, Pack and Go drives me bonkers.

Is there a reason you're using it? If you're trying to transport the
presentation and the videos with links intact, you can do that by
putting the video in the same folder as the presentation and then moving
the whole folder to the CD.

You will need to delete the video from the presentation, move them into
the folder, then reinsert them into the presentation.

Did that - see below, ultimate user may copy to a different drive/directory
and I also wanted to give them a copy of the projector in case PP is not
installed, I assume I can do this without embbing the video?
You will need to delete the video from the presentation, move them into
the folder, then reinsert them into the presentation.

The video files were always in the same directory, I moved the whole lot to
a sub-directory and it played fine, I then copied the whole directory to a
CD-Rom and played it on another machine, it found the video files ok so I
assumed that PP97 stored the locations of the video files as relative paths,
I've just realised that both the subdirectory and my collegues cd-rom drive
were drive D:. I am now concerned that PP is storing the absolute paths and
that the preso will not work if the location is not D: is this correct? I
am concerned about your instructions to remove and re-add the video, I cant
find a way of just refreshing the locations without redoing all the window
sizes and animation setting for all eleven clips (is it posible to open the
ppt file in a hex editor and change the paths there if needed?). Will PP
serach for the files along the Path specified in the Environmental variable
PATH?? Ps I will try moving whole lot to a different drive and see what
happens - bit pushed for time at the minute!!!

It depends on how you inserted them ... if from the same folder as the
already-saved PPT file, then the paths should be relative. Otherwise
they'll be absolute.

To check, you can use our free FixLinks demo, downloadable at
http://get.pptools.com
It will give you a links report that lists the links in your presentation.

It might be possible to fix things in a hex editor, but I wouldn't bet more
than five or ten cents on it. ;-) PPT won't search along the PATH either.

FixLinks will reset things and make the paths relative, though.

I tried downloading the fixlinks demo but once installed the Help(?) says
module not compiled and the masterbar says it can't create embedded object

Any thoughts

Hi Nik,

Very strange .... thousands and thousands of downloads and I've never heard
of this one.
Just installed it again from scratch on '97 and can't dupe the problem there
either.

Could you get in touch with me at steve at-sign pptools dot com so we can
follow this up more quickly? I'd appreciate that!
