How can I change the default shadow color for text in PP 2007? I found how to
do it in PP 2003 so that whenever I applied shadowing to text, the color was
automatically what I wanted rather than having to change it from the default
MS chose.

But I can't figure out how to do it in PP 2007 as things are quite
different. Does it have something to do with Themes?

Hi,

you can manually change the shadow colour for individual settings through
format / shape effects/ shadow/ shadow options
then, right hand click the mouse over the object and select 'set as default
shape' - or use the trusty format paintbrush to copy formatting.

to my knowledge the 2007 colour theme options do not allow for a specific
shadow colour to be set.

I hope this helps.

So then each time when you choose to add a shadow to text, you have to choose
the color each time?

Yes, that would be the case. You can set a default textbox, though. Format
the text the way you want, then right-click and choose Set Textbox Default.

Colored shadows aren't usually conducive to readability, although sometimes
they can help, sure.

If you use the placeholders on the slides ("click here to add text"), you
can add your shadows to those on the slide masters and layouts in View |
Slide Master. That's what masters are for -- to give you formatting
consistency so you don't have to apply formatting each time you add text or
whatever.

The shadows on the objects in the galleries are determined by the effects
styles in the themes, and you cannot create your own effects styles in the
PPT interface. You could go to the Design tab and choose a different Effects
Style from the built-in ones. But those aren't text shadows, and they won't
change the shadow color. Text shadows are generally determined by what
you've added to the placeholders. The "WordArt" gallery is a special animal.
You know, I'm not sure where those settings come from, now that we mention
it.

That's too bad. Oh well, thanks for the information.
