PP 2003 Freezes when Music Added

I am having a problem with PP 2003 that we just upgraded
to.

When I try to add music to my presentation the whole
thing freezes (even on the small size samples that came
with PP)

Anyone know what might be causing this?
 
What kind of music files are these, Marilyn?

I'm wondering if there's an issue with Windows and the sound files
themselves. Assuming you're on Windows XP or 2000, go to Start/Run and
type in mplay32.exe Do the sound files play there? If not, they won't
play in PPT, either.

If that's the case, head to
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm and use
the screenshots in section 3 to make sure your MCI settings are correct
in the registry. (If you're using Windows 98, use the text for the INI
files instead.)
