PP 2003 Can't Read file

I got a new computer loaded with PowerPoint 2003. I am
unable to open any of my old files saved in PowerPoint
2000. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 820703
addresses the issue but is there a better way of fixing
this?

Hello,

You might be encountering a known OfficeArt (Office Drawing Objects) issue
which can occur when a file saved from Office 97 or Office 2000 is opened
up in Office 2003 (PowerPoint, Word or Excel).
