I have added a modify password to a presentation, I can
not now access the password to delete or change it. No
prompt appears asking for the password.

Can any one help?

Can you open the file, though? If so, try File, Save As; in the Save As
dialog, click Tools, then Security to open the password dialog box. Can you
then change the password and save the presentation?

In any case, it seems odd that you don't get asked for ANY password.
What happens if you quit then restart PowerPoint?
