Powerpoint won't open files

I purchased the powerpoint software a few weeks ago. It will not open any of my ppt files including ones I created with the new software. I get an error message "Powerpoint can't read [file name].ppt

What am I doing wrong? I also wentto MS and downloaded all the updates

I would try downloading/installing the patches once again, as it's possible you missed the one for PPT/Office.

Go to Help/Check for Updates (if you have PPT 2003, that is). Then install anything related to Office.

It sounds like there's a good chance that you are running into a known
problem with Office applications and Norton's AntiVirus software.

The Norton AntiVirus plug-in for Microsoft Office scans documents for macro
virus infections in Office products. This plug-in may cause performance
issues, the inability to open files within Office (such as design templates
