Powerpoint wont load

have a powerpoint that wont open and it gives me an error that doenst make sense??
Error is : Powerpoint cant open the type of file represented by c:\documents and setting\name\dektop\presentation1try.ppt

and it is on the directory and powerpoint see's it at a powerpoint and when I try to open it it fails with the above error
Help?
