PowerPoint won't insert ditital camera slides with .JPG extension

I have loaded slides from my digital camera into the computer, but I can't
get them inserted into PowerPoint. The file extension is .JPG, and
PowerPoint won't open it. Is there any way to get my slides into PowerPoint?
 
Insert Picture from file, and navigate to where you stored your photos.
