Greg

Sorry if this question has been asked many times, but I
didn't get an obvious answer from the page where I
downloaded the viewer.

Is the viewer intended to also play back sound (music) if
the slideshow was developed that way?

Obviously, I can view the show, but there is no sound.

Thanks,
Greg

Here's some info I wrote up for a CD distribution of some
PP files. Hope this helps.

MUSIC DOES NOT PLAY

This will typically only occur on a computer running an
older version of Windows such as Windows 98. The
presentations are linked to MP3 files for the music.
PowerPoint uses the older MCI technology to play these
files and sometimes things are not configured properly on
older computers.

If the music is not playing on your computer, first make
sure that the speakers are on and the volume on both them
and the computer is turned up sufficiently. You might try
playing a sound file or checking another program that has
sound to make sure they are working properly. If they
are, then try the following:

Click on START and then RUN. Type in "sysedit" and press
ENTER. This will load the System Configuration Editor.
Select the window that has WIN.INI listed in it. Go to
the section in the file labeled "[mci extensions]". Most
likely there is not an entry for "mp3" in this list. At
the end of the list type "mp3=MPEGVideo2" (without the
quotes) and press ENTER. Now select the menu item File,
then Save. Exit the System Configuration Editor.

Try running the presentations again. Hopefully, music
will now play.
