PowerPoint Viewer 2003 "Fail to Initialize Error"

I finally talked a client into using the 2003 version of the viewer. Past
experience with Pack and Go and the 97 viewer made him very skeptical. I
tested an autorun CD I created on Windows XP, XP Home, and Win2K and the
presentation played perfectly. Animations! Fades! Hurray! At last, a
useful viewer!

However, when the client tried to run it on his XP laptop, he got an error
message:
PPTVIEW.EXE - Application Error - The application failed to initialize
properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application.

I gave him the .exe file from Microsoft to install the viewer on his laptop,
and he got the same error.

Now he wants me to use Camtasia to capture the presentation as an .avi file.
I don't want to do that!

Help!

Hi Michael,

Is it the kind of error that brings up the Microsoft Office error reporting
dialog?

If so:

1) Check the details link in the dialog to find the "bucket" number for the
error so that we can look it up in our database, and
2) Whenever possible, click the "Send" option to send in any Office error
reports.

Hi, John. Thanks for the response.

No, it does not bring up the Microsoft Office error reporting dialog. It
results in an Application Error dialog, and asks you to click OK to
terminate the application. Within that dialog it reports (0xc0150002). I
searched that in the Knowledge Base and it suggests problems with the
Service Pack installation.

I just talked to the client - who mumbled something about partially
installing SP1a a month ago. I believe we have found the culprit! We'll
know for sure in the next 30 minutes or so.

LOL! Mumbling clients!
