PowerPoint Viewer 2003 compatibility problem

A friend sent me a PowerPoint presentation that he prepared using PowerPoint
2007 (file extension .pptx). When I try to view it using my PowerPoint
Viewer 2003, I get a message that says, "PowerPoint Viewer cannot open the
file "..." because the file is not a PowerPoint file." What am I doing wrong?
