How would I go about having pointers or circles added to a chart? First, bring up the chart, then bring in a pointer, then bring in a circle, or whatever to follow the presentation, without re-displaying the chart?

I would create separate drawing objects (arrow, circle, etc.) and then
animate the chart to "appear" on mouse click, followed by one of the objects
which would also be animated to appear on mouse click. Is this what you had
in mind?

I'd just draw the pointers on the slide itself and then use custom animation to animate them accordingly.
