Ammar H.

Every time I click the TOOLS button in Powerpoint the
whole program shuts down!! It also shuts down if I click
the buttons next to the TOOLS and then moved the mouse
over the TOOLS button!
I un-installed Office2000 and installed OfficeXP
following a friend's advice, but the problem did not go
with the new version of PowerPoint!! It did not go with
the automatic repair function in PowerPoint as well!! I
dowloaded all the sevice packs and updates and the
problem persists!!
What is this? anyone knows? Could it be that someone had
made a MACRO telling the program to shut down every time
I press that menu button? And is it possible to do that
remotely since no one else uses my computer except myself?
Anyone had an idea?
Thanks

Also, when PPT crashes, do you get an error message? If so, what is it?

Since you uninstalled 2000 and installed Office XP and the problem
didn't go away, it definitely is an issue on your system. And I promise
it's not usual for this to happen.

Thanks Echo S,
1. I have seen before the site you mentioned. Note that
all the tips require me to go the TOOLS, which I can not
even click on because the program would shut down.
2. No messages appears when the program shuts down, not
even a save worning message that usually appear before
any sort of shutting down. All the chnages which were
made before the program crashes are not saved.
3. I think it is the system, that is why I am thinking of
formating. You said it is a highly unusual problem, is
there anyway to contact microsoft to report such a thing?

Finally thank you very much for taking the time to write
your reply, I appreciate it.

oops, you're right. Many of the tips there do require that you use the
Tools menu. But some don't. Try the printer driver thing. I doubt that's
the issue, but it won't take long and won't hurt to try. Also dump
anything left in your TEMP folder. Also maybe try this:
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm

Also, do you have any addins loaded? If you search for *.PPA files and
find any, rename them to *.PPO and see if PPT still crashes. If not, you
can rename the files back to PPA one at a time until you can isolate the
issue.

Nuts. I was hoping we'd have something more to go on if you were getting
an error message.

Sounds like it. Formatting might be your best bet.

As for contacting MS, you can use the options here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=cntactms&style=home You'll
probably want the phone or online options, but there will probably be a
charge. I think this would be considered a support issue rather than a
bug.

You're welcome. Wish I had an answer for you. :-(
