I was wondering is there a way I can only use 8-10 slides in a presentation?i
f so how do I do that, and still make it a good presentation.

There is not that much difference between what you want and the default 10 x
7.5 setting in PowerPoint. Before you start building your presentation go
into page layout and change it to 10 x 8.

That's a fairly broad question. Can you be more specific? Do you want only
8-10 slides from a larger presentation? See Custom Slide Show in the Slide
Show menu. Or delete the slides you don't want and Save As to another name.
Making it a good presentation is really up to you and your audience.

If you follow what is said in either of the two links, you should have no
problem making an 8 slide presentation.

I personally like Cliff Atkinson's stuff. His book is "Beyond Bullet Points"
and he discusses how to make short, effective presentations quickly.

Office Online also has some webcasts of his explaining how to make short,
effective presentations.
