Hello,

I upgraded to Office 2007 this summer. I love the product, but each week I
do a presentation for a Bible Study group with our announcements. The colors
are perfect on my computer, and on the laptop at church. BUT, when we
project it onto the big screen, the colors are nothing near what they are
supposed to be.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm running out of ideas and
where to look to fix the problem.

Is this unique to PowerPoint or does it happen with other programs? It's not
unusual for the projected image to be lower contrast and less saturated ...
generally less snappy/intense ... than the image you see on your computer.

Eliminating excess room light can be a big help.

Steve,

this is unique to my powerpoint (2007) and using 2003. I've never had a
problem before upgrading powerpoint at home.

Can you describe how the colors are off?

I know that PPT 2007 especially has a lot of eye candy and relies heavily on
gradients and semitransparencies to get the "21st century graphics" look. I
also know that many projectors simply cannot display this kind of thing
well, and I wonder if that's what you're running into.

I find that if a client is using an underpowered projector, they often bump
the contrast way up -- which washes everything out and makes yellows look
like oranges look like greens look like blues. In other words, even "flat"
colors often look alike, and gradients pretty much just don't display.

So you might look for a "reset" button of some sort on the projector menu.
If you can't find that, go in and set everything to 0 and start adjusting as
necessary from there.

Reds look black, blues look, well, just BLAH. I've reinstalled Powerpoint
2003 for now. I'll have to have the tech at the church look at the projector
as it's not mine, I don't want to mess with it.

Thanks for the info though, that pretty much sounds like it might be the
problem. I guess MS didn't think that one through too well. I save them as
Powerpoint 97-2003 and still get the same. So, for now, I'll just use
Powerpoint 2003.

thanks for the feedback and info though!

Well, I wouldn't necessarily blame Microsoft for under-powered projectors,
but yeah, 97-2003 don't generally use that much in the way of gradients and
semitransparencies and subtle color changes the way 2007 does (although it's
definitely a much more sophisticated look).

Sophisticated is good, but in this case, simple is better. I've got some
great templates and animations that will work just fine with 2003 for now
until the tech guy can look at it.

Microsoft is in our backyard. We blame them for everything, including the
rain!! (that was a joke)

Thanks again for your help.

You might also want to look at the colors in the 2003 templates that work vs
those in 2007 that don't to see whether there are any obvious differences. You
might even want to try opening your 2003 presentation in 2007 and applying some
of the new effects, but using the existing colors.

Actually, the rain's Boeing's fault. Poking holes in the clouds with those
airplanes all the time, y'know.

The clouds are Microsoft's though.
