I placed a small PowerPoint on my web server. The presentation contains text animation with sound effect followed by an embeded narration audio file. The slides are timed to change after the narration stops. If you want to check it out go to http://www.tgbcomputing.com/ComputerEducation.html and click on the hot link "computer backup" My problem is I have 4 Win XP computers here and 2 of them will not play the narration sound file but the text animation sound are just fine. The other 2 computers play it just fine. Any Idea's on what is wrong

I also tried to use Publisher for PowerPoint (one link below the other) and It would load at all.

Tbrox,

I noticed several problems.

The 1st link does nothing for me.
The 2nd link does nothing for me also.

If I disable my "pop up" blocker...the 1st link opens a new page and a pop up window
After over 30 seconds....it displays "Loading....please wait"
After about 1 minute an error pops up

"The content cannot be loaded because a required Java applet cannot be found. Please ensure Java is enabled for *you*
browser. Contact your support provider if this problem persists."

I'm guessing....but this could be the 'Java has been removed from windows xp problem' due to some legal thing with Sun.

So I didn't get to hear any sounds at all. Sorry ;)

Cheers

The first link worked OK from both my XP and Win98SE machines using IE6. Second
link hung up both computers.

Tried the main link...
First comment: A 13 minute PPT presentation is not "small" in the web world,
nor is it something I am going to (normally) click to run. The download time
of something this large (especially with sound included) is way too long.

Second: On a cable modem that was not downloading or uploading anything else
at the time, I got nothing after 5 minutes of waiting. (Yes, I had let the
window pop-up. That was 5 minutes at the Loading screen.)

So, I tried the Producer version...
Well, this one is not supposed to be quite as long, maybe it will go better.
No such luck. If you really need to distribute this via the web, I suggest
you look at cleaning it up some and breaking it up some.

Just my two cents... take it or leave it.

Yes, new installs of Win XP need the Java plugin. MS stopped supporting Java and there for has stopped offering it's Java Virtual Machine as a download. In order for you to get any Java applet to work on your machine you will need to do one of 2 things. 1) download a Java plugin from SUN or 1) find someone who has the last MS Java VM plugin file saved on there hard drive and install it.

Thank you for trying and for your comments. I'm surprised that you had to wait so long. the first link is a little large for dialup and just a bit large for broadband. the file is around 1.4 MB but It still should have only taken 30 to 40 seconds to download on a cable connection. However if you tried this at a high traffic time for your cable area usage this could effect your download time. I know the second link has problems that need to be fixed or removed.

Actually it worked fine for me, as far as I know

On the first slide, the sounds were kind-of "slashy", which at first I thought was some kind of error, but then on each subsequent slide the sounds that I heard were the usual kinds of "sound effects" sounds (whistles and the like). If there was other than that, I didn't hear them
Not every slide had sound effects

I'm on a Corporate network. Things downloaded briskly enough. An external ftp usually proceeds at about 600KB/sec
