Powerpoint numbering

I have five sections in my Powerpoint presentation. Each section is saved as
a separate file. I want to print all the sections for the manual with
sequential numbering. Or, if that's not possible how can I at least have the
pages numbered for each section like 1.1, 2.1, 2.2? How can I automatically
make Powerpoint do this? I tried modifying the code in the Master view that
looked like this: <#> but no success.

Can you help me?

You can try adding the number. (that's number-dot) before the <#> and then
turning on page numbers in View|Header and Footer.

So, for example, on section 3, you'd have 3.<#> on the slide master. Turn on
the page numbers, and that should display 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, etc.

You'll have to add that to each section manually.

In each presentation turn on page numbering by View + Header and
Footer and checking Slide number. Then on the Slide Master add the
appropriate section number e.g. 1 or 2 or 3 with the "." in front of
the slide number placeholder. After a little practice you'll be able
to line these up so it will look like 1.1 or 1.2 when previewed or
printed.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was doing it wrong. I was putting <1.#>.
Not realizing the 1. had to go outside the brackets. I appreciate your help
very much.
