Dear Sir,

I got a powerpoint file in French format. And I added some commonts and slides to the file with English version of Office XP powerpoint. However, I have some kind of problem to use the spelling sheck to this file.

First, the powerpoint told me that I could not use the speeling check because there was a new tool was need to be installed. I clicked yes to let powerpoint installed the addition tools. Then I can use the spelling check.

However, the spelling check will start ignore all the corrected spelling the English word. It seems to me that Powerpoint only use the French Directory. not English Directory.

Is there a way that pick which directory I need to use?

Thanks in advance.

Sunny

Echo S,

Thank you very much for the information.

Do you know if this problem has been fix in Powerpoint 2003?

Thanks!

Sunny

You may need to change the language ID of the comments.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;245468&Product=ppt
shows the code to do this.

I don't think so. But I don't really know that this is a bug or anything, either.

PPT uses the regional settings in Windows to determine the language of a presentation. If I understand correctly, once that presentation is created in whatever language, the objects are created in that language unless you change them manually (or with code like in that KB article). Just opening the presentation in a different Windows machine with different regional settings isn't enough to change the language of the presentation and its objects.

So in other words, your presentation was created in Windows set to French. That means the objects in the presentation are flagged as French. Opening it on your Windows set to English isn't going to change the language of those objects.
