I am not familiar with PP, but when there is a presentation open, and you
click file and open it locks up, if you hit a key, it dings. The only way to
get out of a presentation once that happens in Control/Alt/Del ?

Does this only happen when you try to open a specific presentation, or
does it happen when you try to open any presentation?

It sounds as if it's the former, since you said "when there is a
presentation open...."

I am looking at a presentation, and want to open another one to have it
ready to move on. I click file, open get to the browse box then it locks up,
doesn't matter what presentation.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

I would try this. It's going to sound weird, I know, but
it's worth a try. Open a new blank presentation in PPT and
do a File/Save As. Name it A.PPT and save it to the same
folder that typically opens when you first use the browse
box when doing a File/Open.

The goal here is to make the first file that PPT sees when
it tries to open a file be a very small file.

I don't know that this will fix the problem, but it won't
hurt to try.
